Britt's Book reviews!
The Fault in Our Stars
John Green Rachelle: If you like a sappy romance story with a bit of a twist, then this book is for you. The Fault in Our Stars is about a young intelligent girl named Hazel who is fighting cancer. Her life was changed the day she met Augustus Walters. Love at first sight is an understatement for these two. The book takes you on an unforgetable journey with an unexpected twist. This book will grab your heart and open your eyes to new thoughts you didn't know you could have. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is a romantic. **** |
Burnout
Adrienne Maria Vrettos Megan: This book is about a teenage girl named Nan who has a new friend named Semmy that always wants to drink. Nan tried to become sober and follow the right path, but this Halloween night might have dragged her back into her old ways. I liked this book because it's unique. The chapters go from the present to the past which I like because I feel like I'm with her though the whole book. The vocabulary is easy because a teenager is telling the story. This book is going to appeal to a younger audience. |
Under the Never Sky
Veronica Rossi Natausha: This book was one that I just could not put down. I would read it for hours straight and be left wanting more. At first the book is a little confusing because it is a dystopian novel and everything is being explained while getting the ball rolling. I enjoyed how the chapters switched from Aria's point of view to Perregrine's with each chapter. The book was based around survival and finding truth but it also had a slight romance for anyone who refuses to read anything without it. ***** |
Think
John Piper Arriah: Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If offers great thoughts as to how the life of the mind and knowledge play into the Christian faith, ultimately glorifying the Creator of the mind Himself. John Piper alludes to several portions of other highly esteemed books and essays on knowledge, as well as relevant passages of scripture. In short, this book is a must read for anyone looking to deepen their knowledge of the mind as a Christian, or even skeptics of the Christian thought process. **** |
Girlfriend Material
Melissa Kantor Tyler: I really enjoyed this book because it related to my life in a way. A mom and daughter leave town to stay with a family friend for the summer. The teenage daughter tries to fit in with everyone, and she finds herself falling in love in the process. Throughout the summer she has had her ups and downs, but she manages to have the best summer. |
Muscle Car: The Art of Power
John Gunnell Kevin: This book gets into detail when it comes to muscle cars. The author does a really good job explaining all the features like the different engines in the cars and the compression rate that it has. You do have to know a little about cars to understand, and you can easily catch on. |
Into Thin Air
Jon Krakauer Andrew: My opinion of this book is that it was an interesting topic about a near death experience. I felt like it was very drawn out and overly descriptive. It made the experience lose its purpose and the drama of the event. *** |
A Stolen Life: A Memoir
Jaycee Dugard Amber: I thought this was a very enjoyable book. Even though it was very detailed about her personal life, it was well said. It was on a personal level, but that's what I loved about it because she wasn't afraid to talk about her kidnapping experience. ***** |
Me Before You
Jojo Moyes Mrs. Britt: This book will leave you will all sorts of feels. It is an unexpected love story about a parapalegic and his caregiver with a twist. It discusses the importance of relationships and the importance of acceptance. Although the book started a bit slow, if you stick with it, Moyes will make you cry and laugh, surprise you, and fall in love with Will and Louisa. **** |
Football's Greatest
Sports Illustrated Konnor: I enjoyed this book because it has information, statistics, and pictures of the all time greatest NFL players. It contains playwers I have never heard of in different eras. This book also includes the top 10 coaches and teams of all time. This book contains essentially everything you need and want to know about the National Football League. |
